Exceptional Location

The school, located in the lovely Hunter’s Park residential neighborhood, is convenient to downtown and the colleges, and is just blocks from a local park that we frequent often. Children from every neighborhood in Duluth — and from Superior, Proctor, Esko, and Hermantown — have attended Montessori School of Duluth.

Convenient Busing

Children age 5 and over, who live in the Duluth school district, qualify for district bus transportation to Montessori School of Duluth.

Spacious Classrooms

Our school environment provides security, warmth, and opportunity for creative play, friendship, and recreation.

The building interior remodeled in 2009 and 2011. It has spacious classrooms and playrooms, and features a wing that was specially designed for small children, including in-floor radiant heat. Children enjoy rooms with many low windows for viewing the outside, direct access to the outdoors, and child-height sinks. Daily programs are greatly aided by bathrooms built for small children, two kitchen areas, a well-stocked library, and two additional homelike childcare spaces.

MSD is the ideal Montessori environment to serve up to 50 Children’s House students ages three to five years old, and 35 Elementary students ages six to eleven years old.

Beautiful Grounds

The grounds of Montessori School of Duluth have been recently transformed with the help of a generous Enbridge Ecofootprint Grant. The new design includes many varied outdoor areas, including new educational and play spaces, and raised garden beds for students’ use. Each classroom now has its own fenced “outdoor classroom.” Play structures include several climbers and spinners, a slide, sandbox, natural features like a rock playscape, and a paved path for trikes. On the side of the school is a sports field for older students, and on the roof is a solar panel installation.
